Detroit achieved number one in the league again. Detroit sweeps long-time rival Colorado in 4 straight. That's my baby!!! Detroit will always be my fave!!!
-------------------------------------------------
Yes

I believe!! We believe!!!!

May 9, '08

"Gyabon," or "gyabo," or "gyafun," and also "mukya," are funny sounds that Nodame makes as expressions of surprise, anger, and excitement. Hehehe... "gyabon"!!!!  ^.^
May 16, '08
Nodame Special

在孫燕姿的版本裡, First Day分別是代表貢獻給這首歌的三位歌手/團體: Fir(飛兒有配音, 作曲), st(Stephanie, 孫燕姿的英文名字, 主唱, 作曲), Day(五月天May Day的"Day," 因為歌詞是阿信寫的, 一起作曲). 所以Fir-st Day囉!! ^^

This Sat will begin 2008's Stanley Cup final, Detroit Vs. Pittsburgh. Detroit has come a long way, my love for 15 years is gonna win the Cup this year...!!! Even after the retirement of their legendary coach Scott Bowman and longest serving captain in NHL Steve Yzerman, they still are playing tops in the league and playoffs, you go girl!!! They were very successful in passing on the baton, the new guys have stepped up BIG TIME. And Chris Osgood came back to play for goalie, and this time he was much more solid and stable than when he was in Detroit during the days of Sergei Fedorov.
Good teams and churches will pass it on, the numbers aren't the most important thing, but discipleship must take priority over evangelism. Jesus spent most of His time developing the 12. When he left, he left no books or structured organization, but He passed it on successfully. Hence, what is true success in the ministry in God's eyes? It's faithfully passing it on, because from eternity's perspective, the influence and impact will be genuine, they will last, they will multiply in time. Just like Jesus through the 12 apostles and other believers in time shook the entire known world in the Roman Empire, and this faith is still growing today after 2,000 years have gone by. Jesus Himself did not get to see this while He was on earth, but He was successful, 100% successful. Churches, ministers and Christians today are so absorbed in numbers, fancy programs and methodologies, and subtle popularity and recognition, they may be sincere in their approach, but this is all viewing things and success from the temporary earthly perspective. But God's method has always been people. People are what He used. When Jesus gave the Great Commission in Matt 28, He especially emphasized to "make disciples," hence, the early church passed it on faithfully, the numbers and waves of revivals are just the natural by-product of sticking to Jesus' principles engraved in the Word of God--the Bible.
This principle works, regardless in the world, business, sports, or the Kingdom of God, because it originated from God, if only churches will allow their eyes to be opened and see. Quality will always precede quantity. So instead of always focusing on methods and programs and things like these, prayers, the meditation of the Word of God, worship, spiritual experiences in the Holy Spirit should be emphasized, because they are the ingredients to a close personal walk with God. Paul likened the Church to be a human anatomy. When symptoms arise, true restoration will not just treat the outward signs of illnesses, they've got to start from the core and the real causes of ailments and viewing the entire body as one inter-connected organism and giving it the overall health, and not just treating parts here and there. The Body of Christ will also save a lot of frustration by discerning the Will and timing of God, just doing the things God told us to do, don't do the things God didn't tell us to do, nothing more, nothing less, be devotedly faithful in the Will of God is still what God looks at.

Stanley Cup final Detroit Vs. Pittsburgh game three today. Don't you love it when you have been cheering for a team since the early days when it's not doing so well and seeing it climbing up to the tops and even number one? Instead of liking a team because it's already tops, it just feels awesome to have loved a team when it wasn't number one, but you kept on believing, supporting, and encouraging for what it is and not what it has accomplished.

  • The Presence of Jesus Christ (With Notes on the Five Spiritual Senses)

June 8, 2008
The Presence of Jesus Christ (With Notes on the Five Spiritual Senses)
Introduction:
It is necessary to establish the fact that just as we have the natural five senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste, we as spiritual beings also have five spiritual senses of spiritual sight, spiritual hearing, spiritual touch, spiritual smell, and spiritual touch (Heb 5:14). God being Spirit can see and hear etc., we as spirits created in the image of God certainly have spiritual senses as well (Gen 1:27). Angels are spirit beings who can definitely sense the worlds around them with their senses, whether they are God's good angels or the fallen angels (Matt 24:31; 25:41). Demons as spirits also still have their spiritual senses fully intact and functional (Matt 8:29). When we enter into the Spiritual World, our physical bodies are left on the earth to rot, but surely we will still be able to see and hear in Heaven (Matt 17:3). In the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16 that Jesus told, He described what happened to them after their earthly lives have ended and they entered into the Spiritual Realm in Hades (note however that this was pre-resurrection, so saints who passed away now do not go into the good part of Hades but straight to the heavenly realms--Matt 27:50-53). Both the rich man and Lazarus could still see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. In fact, their senses were even acuter in the spiritual dimension (Luke 16:24). Paul sometimes call our spirits the "inner man" (Eph 3:16), or the "inward man" (Rom 7:22; 2 Cor 4:16), or simply talk about us being "spirits" plainly (Rom 1:9). Technically, we don't just have spirits, but we are spirits, that have a soul, and live in a physical body (1 Thess 5:23; Heb 4:12). That is why Paul and Peter referred to our physical body as only a "tent" in which we, as spirits, take residence in (2 Cor 5:1, 4; 2 Pet 1:13-14). Having established this truth from the Scriptures, the reason why many cannot seem to function in their spiritual senses is because their spirits are not well-trained. All Christians, even non-Christians, can tap in the inherent ability of the five spiritual senses, but they need to be developed as just babies need to develop their natural five senses in the process of growing. However, this spiritual growth is not automatic, it can only be cultivated through prayer, meditation of the Word, worship, and impartation from other men and women of God. This is why the author of Hebrews, through the Holy Spirit, stated and exhorted believers that "solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil" (Heb 5:14). The context and common biblical interpretation rule tell us that the "senses" here is definitely not referring to the natural five senses but the spiritual five senses. In fact, we only derive our natural five senses from our five spiritual senses--the spiritual always comes first before the physical (Heb 11:3; also e.g. God is Spirit and He can see, hear and smell etc., although we understand His "senses" are much different and greater than ours). Furthermore, just as many have a better natural sense such as sight over the other senses, the quality of our spiritual senses also differ from person to person in the will of God, but all senses can be developed. Some may have better spiritual sight, for some, it may be spiritual hearing. It is just different, neither sense is considered better than the other. For those who function easier with their spiritual eyesight, they tend to see visions and dream dreams. Those who hear spiritually more often, they tend to "know" or "hear" or "pick up" the voice or leading of the Lord and they don't necessarily see all the various types and categories of visions (but all Christians can develop all the spiritual senses).
Lastly, the particular gift of discerning of spirits in 1 Cor 12:10 is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and not synonymous with the common ability of our spiritual senses to sense the Spiritual World. The gift of discerning of spirits only works as the Spirit wills, just like all the other nine gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12:11). However, we can always train our spiritual senses and this inherent spiritual quality is not restricted to some but all believers who exercise their spiritual senses. It's just like all can pray and believe for healing, but not all have the definite gifts of healings of the Spirit, which is something that was foreordained by God and not us (1 Cor 12:9, 11). The word "discerning" in the gift of discerning of spirits mean to "discern" into the Spiritual World. Those who function in this particular gift also "discern" differently. Some with their spiritual sight, some with hearing, some with other senses. The difference between this gift working and the normal exercise of our spiritual senses is in the different levels of anointing and authority. A detailed sharing on this is not the scope of this article, but a general understanding is presented here to differentiate them to help us not be confused with questions such as whether only some can sense the Spirit World. The answer is simply everyone can. The more we develop them through prayers, meditation of His Word, worship, we'll be able to better discern spiritually. The only caution is we always need confirmations and not presume that something we sense is accurate or real. We check by the Word and time. Sometimes it could be just our heads, that would be more in the realm of soul and natural senses and not spiritual sensing. The balance is believe what the Scripture teaches and step out by faith, but at the same time keep oneself in check by God's Word, time, and a heart that is teachable and humble. The purpose of all sharing and experiences is, of course, love.
Testimony:
Yesterday (June 7, '08) during our cell group meeting, as we were worshiping and praying away, we sensed strongly the presence of Jesus Christ in our midst. Prior to our worship, our discussion and fellowship were carried out in a very loving and united way. There was a deep oneness and genuine care we had for each other as we freely shared our thoughts and sought God earnestly and honestly. During the worship and prayer, I sensed (although I see visions sometimes, I tend to hear spiritually more often) a presence of Jesus, that He was also in the room, standing on the other end of the table from us. As we continued on praying and waiting on Him, I sensed that He walked closer to us and finally He laid His hands on each of us. It was a very tangible experience. After our prayer, I didn't mention this particularly for reasons. However, one of the brothers started sharing before I said anything on what I sensed, that he felt strongly that Jesus was in the room and laying hands on each of us during our prayer time. He said he "saw" (remember the spiritual seeing I talked about in the intro) Jesus doing all these ministering unto us. This was a great confirmation to my heart, as I haven't shared anything and, in fact, wasn't planning to do so. So I also shared what I sensed very tangibly the presence of Jesus, although I didn't see, but I just "know" and "felt" (as described above, I tend to hear spiritually more often). But it was so real just like you could feel the presence of a person walking closer even though you can't see him or her. Then another of our brothers said that he also "saw" Jesus when we were praying and waiting on Him in our midst. He said he didn't see His face clearly, but a figure and a sense of His manifest presence. Now this was very encouraging and interesting. There was a particular reason why this presence was especially manifested for the people present there. The interesting thing is how we all experienced the very presence of our precious Lord but in a different way. It was interesting how each of us described the exactly same event but from different angles. This was a special experience that we needed for His purposes and our encouragement.
Normally, we should believe by faith that Jesus is in us and with us all the time (Matt 18:20). We should walk by faith and not by (natural) sight, meaning not depending on our bodily and emotional feelings and external circumstances, but purely on the Word of God where our faith comes from (2 Cor 5:7; Rom 10:17). However, sometimes God does allow us to have special experiences when the presence of Christ was especially manifested for His purposes. Stephen on the verge of dying saw the Lord Jesus Christ with his spiritual eyes (Acts 7:56). Saul, when on the road to Damascus, heard with his spiritual ears the Lord Jesus Christ speaking to him (Acts 9). On the other hand, after this dramatic experience, Paul did not go on only depending on similar type of experiences, but he grounded and rooted himself in the Word of God and the love of God, where all spiritual experiences are interpreted and measured against.
This little touching incident showed us that Jesus is indeed with us (and not just an old Christian cliche) whether we see Him or not (Matt 28:20). He knows all our troubles and heartaches. He is with us even right now. The more we tune and fill our hearts with His love and surrender ourselves completely to His Will, the more we will be able to sense His presence because "blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matt 5:8). He loves you, although I or any other person may not know or know fully the troubles that you go through, please give all your burden to Jesus. In God there is always a way, if only we can see. If only we continue to choose to love, choose to forgive, choose to bless, choose to be honest and open, choose to ask for forgiveness, choose to endeavor as much as we know how to the purpose of God for our lives, He will make our hearts glad once again. I was also reminded that the most precious thing in the Kingdom of God is not gifts, recognition or outward ministry results, but the companionship and closeness of our Lord. It breaks one's heart utterly when you love someone so dearly but cannot be with that person. On the other end, it's such a bliss when you can be with the person who loves you the most--and we know that Jesus is and will always be with us, He will never forsake nor forget us--never (Heb 13:5; Is 49:15). The very reason that Father God sent Jesus was so that He and us His children can be together intimately once again forever. For this reason, no matter what hardship or misunderstanding we face today, the tremendous comfort and sweetness of His presence and grace will always be able to carry us on, with songs of faith, hope, and love. You are loved and watched over by Him. He is cheering you on and always so near. Take heart and be encouraged!!  ^__^
"For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them" (Jesus Christ--Matt 18:20)
"Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split" (Matt 27:51).
"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me" (Ps 23:4).
With His Love and Grace (lots and lots),

  • The Beauty of the Lord's Voice

The Beauty of the Lord's Voice -- by Pastor Peter Tan
Dear Beloved
The Voice of the Lord is a spiritual voice and can only be receive by our spirit beings. Only spirit can contact Spirit, only soul can contact soul, and only body can contact body. Before the fall, Adam and Eve must have delighted in hearing the voice of God in the Garden but immediately after the fall the same voice that has brought joy and comfort, now brought him fear (Genesis 3:8,10). The Hebrew word 'voice' is the word 'qol' which sometimes has been translated 'sound.' It is possible to hear a sound without necessarily hearing and understanding the voice (Of course, if it is a spiritual sound, only spiritual ears can hear although to the hearer it might sound as if it is just a natural noise).
When Jesus was baptized in water, there was a voice from God that declared Him as His beloved Son but most likely only John saw vision and heard the voice of God (Luke 3:22; John 1:32-33). When a voice answered Jesus as He prayed, some people near Him heard it as a thunder, others heard something without understanding and said that an angel had spoken (John 12:28-29). When Paul was down under a vision on the road to Damascus, He heard the voice and instruction of the Lord but all those around him heard a voice (sound) but did not understand anything (Acts 9:7; 22:9). All these events were supernatural events which affected the surrounding people differently depending on their own spiritual development in God.
1.       We are promised the leading of the Holy Spirit everyday (John 14:17-18,26)
The leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives are always there every day. It is never a question as to whether He has spoken but rather whether we can hear and understand Him. Jesus said that His sheep hear His voice (John 10:27). And the Holy Spirit has come to lead us and to guide us into all truth (John 16:13). The anointing that God has given to all believers abides in us, teaching us all things (1 John 2:27). Sometimes we don't understand because we are not tuned to the area to hear what is being communicated. For example, an experienced mother knows what a child's need is and the more experience they are, the more they can differentiate between the whimper for comfort, the cry for nourishment, and the cry of pain and discomfort. An animal lover can differentiate the needs of an animal by its posture, sounds and even eyes. God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, His angels and the Holy Spirit are constantly sending us little leadings of the Holy Spirit that we must tune in to everyday.

2.       The promptings, signals and leadings of the Spirit and His angels are not given in a human language. We might in the end hear it in human language but they are given Spirit to spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10-11). For example, when God's voice vibrate in the spiritual realm and is telling a group of His people not to be afraid;
some of them will not hear anything but purely feel a sense of comfort,
some will sense the remembrance of an event in which they had taken great comfort and faith,
some will hear within their inner mind, words of comfort in their own vocabulary (Be not afraid or Be strong, Fear not, I am with you, I am here, you are not alone, etc.),
some will suddenly remember varying Scriptures telling them not to be afraid (Matthew 28:20 – Lo, I am with you; Psalm 23:4 - Though you walk through the shadow of death, you will fear not evil for I am with you; Psalm 91 – He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under His shadow, etc.
Some may ask, why is it that the same voice of comfort produces such different interpretations? This is because we all hear the same voice of comfort in our spirits but our souls and minds translate it into something which we can understand. Understanding this principle of Spirit to spirit communication is important, for it is the key to developing our relationship with God:

a.       We all do not perceive exactly in the same way. No one thinks exactly the same way. We all are unique and although we understand and acknowledge that there is Absolute Truth and Reality outside of ourselves, and the principles of those Truths, we all perceive it in our own unique way. Two plus two equals four but a baker will see it as two buns times two makes four buns, an animal lover may see it as two cats plus two cats make four cats, and astronomer may see it as two stars plus two stars makes four, a mathematician might see it as two plus two using a base of ten makes four, etc. We all add our perception to what is being perceived.
b.      We are limited by our ability to stretch our perception. Humans normally never hear sound vibrations higher than 20,000 vibrations a second but dogs can. Our inner ear does not have the ability to perceive it. Perception and understand is always a construct from the blocks of knowledge that we already have to build new knowledge. For example, try explaining what snow is to someone who has never seen snow. You would have to use things within the person's life and knowledge to construct new knowledge. You might use coconut meat to illustrate the colour of snow. You might use cold water to illustrate the coldness of snow. You might use sand to illustrate the brittleness of snow, etc. But until you are either able to bring the actual snow itself to the person or a picture of it, there are some limits to what you can communicate. If you had a block of ice, you could chip the block of ice into tiny bits and then fluff it out 'like snow' to convey to the person what snow is like. Yet there are things that the person can only imagine but not experience, for example, the picture of snow covered trees twinkling in the moonlight with snow capped mountains behind them, the joys of building a snowman or making angel shapes in the snow, the beauty of white fluffy snowflakes falling from the sky, etc.  When God speaks to us, our spirits hear Him but we are always limited by the extent of the blocks of knowledge within us to construct the gist or sum of what He is trying to say. That is why the more we grow, the more we can grow; and the more we experience, the more we can experience. Ask, seek and knock, and it will open the door for more of God (Matthew 7:7). That is why we need to read the Bible, for they contain the recorded experiences of other people whom God has met and spoken with; and as you understand how and why God speaks to them, you will understand how and why God speaks to us.
c.       Our soul limits how much we can know of God by limiting our ability to translate the receptions in our spirit to our conscious mind and understanding. For this reason, we need to renew the soul and the mind though the Word of God (Romans 12:1-2; 1 Peter 1:22). Our soul consists of our mind, our emotions and our will. There are some things which the mind cannot grasp but the emotions can; there are some things which the emotion cannot grasp but the mind can; and there are some things which is completely beyond the emotion and the mind but if we follow our will in the right path, our emotions and our minds with exposure and time will rise to the occasion and be able to fell and know (with training and growth). We learn to count before we learn to multiply and we learn to multiply before we do calculus. We learn to make friends and we learn what friendship love is, we learn to love our families and we learn what family love is; we experienced companionship, joys, sorrows, laughter and tears through life – and finally gain the capacity to enlarge ourselves in our abilities to love and to care for others.
Remember that in every situation you are in, the grace of God has already provided you an answer and a path through (1 Corinthians 10:13). Remember that every situation is an opportunity to learn and grow (Romans 8:28). Remember that there are some areas in life where you have full freedom of choice and some areas where the choice has already been made for you by predecessors or by circumstances but God is always there to show you the right path if your heart is right (Proverbs 3:5, 6).
Understand and learn to interpret every perception in your spirit man, every impression in your heart, every shade of your dream life, every tug of your emotion, every flicker of thought; for within them contains the translation of the Spiritual voice of God arising in your soul consciousness. Be led by the Spirit and you shall indeed be sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:14). A miss is as good as a mile, so don't miss what God is saying to you today and every day.
In Christ's love
Ps Peter Tan

  • A Balanced View on the Lakeland Revival in Florida

May 17, 2008
For every move and stirring of God, we should always examine it in light of the principles of His Word, the specific leadings of His Spirit, and also taking into account the lessons we can learn from 2,000 years of church history, especially revival history. The recent Florida Lakeland revival (if one calls it a "revival") deserves a more balanced view. J. Lee Grady has provided a balanced view as pasted below that is generally right on target.
I have personally attended Todd Bentley's meetings and have come in touch with many of his materials (sermons and messages) and can confirm some of the things Grady mentioned are worthy of attention and spiritual discernment. In general, I do not doubt the validity of the salvation and miracles as a result of the meetings, and the tremendous passion, zeal, and sincerity that Todd has for the Lord. It is a Christian quality lacking in many parts in the Body of Christ today. This holy passion and desire is an example in dire need to be followed and practiced by churches, ministers, and believers. I also believe that the spiritual encounters that Todd has are bona fide, however, his interpretation and application of them probably need to be more grounded in the Word of God and the character of His love for edification. There is nothing wrong with communing with angels, for people of God have talked with angels throughout the Bible (e.g. Gabriel talked with Zacharias, Mary, and Daniel; the company of angels told the shepherds in the wilderness to look for Jesus etc.). But it is altogether a different thing than actively seeking guidance, communication, and revelation from angels directly, as all attention should be on God, Jesus Christ, and not on the angelic messengers. All those who have truly encountered and communed with angels will know that they do not want humans to shift their attention away from Jesus to them. It is true that angelic beings are the primary means in which God's work on earth are carried out under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, including delivering revelation and truth. Therefore, it is a balanced view, mannerism, and the correct methods and teachings that we need in order to not overly exaggerate and shun extremities. Past church revival history has taught us this very well.
The vision I had last night was concerning Todd and the current situation. I saw Todd sitting in a person's (who I know in reality) car backseat, Someone (who I also know in reality) was sitting beside the driver's seat, no one was driving. The car was going out of the garage (somehow without a driver), and Todd wanted to drive and take control. But he seemed without a proper car license, or at least without the proper car insurance coverage and the owner's permission since he was driving someone else's car. The person beside the driver's seat halted him because Todd was very eager to take the wheels that did not belong to him nor was he given allowance.
One main message of this vision is that he needs to be careful not to step over the boundary that he was not predestined to. He is called to be a mighty evangelist, but definitely not a teacher or pastor (Eph 4:11). If you remember the case with William Branham well, he was such an anointed prophet and evangelist, but when he wanted to become a fivefold teacher, he fell into errors and false doctrines. Soon his life and ministry were dissolved. Here is some discretion for all ministers and believers. It is critical to know what you have been called to do, and what you have not been called to function in. Furthermore, there is always an order of the offices if one is called to more than one fivefold ministry. Two persons may both be called as pastors and teachers, but for one, he may be first a teacher, then a pastor, for the other, he may be called firstly to a pastor, and secondly a teacher. Paul was called first as an apostle, evangelist, then teacher. The order may be different for a time in different phases of one's life, nevertheless, one needs to discern and be obedient to stay in the functions and priorities ordained by God. Lastly, this is only talking about gifts and callings measured to a person sovereignly by God before the foundation of the world (of course the responsibilities to grow within that measure is our own and not God's), and not one's spirituality. This is discussed in much more detail in my fourth dream vision on how the Lord does not see as man sees. The greatest is still love demonstrated in a person and not gifts (1 Cor 13:1-8).
In the end, we do appreciate and are thankful to God for Todd, his personal testimony, zeal, devotion, and ministry. The fruit of salvation, healing, deliverance, encouragement from the meetings are awesome and God-glorifying. On the other hand, Christians need to be balanced by sound teaching of the Word (as Paul and the apostles continued to teach the Word before, during, and after revivals in the Book of Acts), otherwise our spiritual experiences will have great potential to cause more damages than benefits. For some Christians, perhaps what they need, on the contrary, are more spiritual experiences and encounters, and not just the mere intellectual knowledge of the Bible. The Holy Spirit is a living God-Person, He is still speaking and working, so are His angels and ministering spirits, thus our faith and relationship with the Lord should not be just a set of doctrines no matter how sound they may be. For this latter group of believers, they need to be open to the ministries of the Holy Spirit in regard to dreams and visions, gifts of the Spirit, the apostolic and prophetic ministry, tongues, divine healing, demonic deliverance, the fivefold ministries, angelic and Spiritual World visitations etc. A balanced teaching and correct methodologies are definitely required to present a sound and practical application of these charismatic truths in the love, humility, and spiritual depth of God. When it comes to the the working of the Word of God and the Spirit of God, it's never an either-or question, or simply throwing the babies out with the bathwater because someone in the past has made serious errors in them, just as we don't throw out the Bible just because someone has misquoted or misinterpreted a certain passage. Let's be balanced Christians, both knowing and walking in the deeper things of God for loving Him and others' sake, just like Jesus.
In His Love,
George

Honest Questions About the Lakeland Revival
I support any holy outbreak of revival fervor. But let's be careful to guard ourselves from pride and error.

God is stirring deep spiritual passion in the hearts of the thousands of people who have traveled to Florida during the last month to experience the Lakeland Healing Revival. Since these meetings began in a 700-seat church on April 2, the crowd has moved four times to bigger venues, the fervor has intensified and the news has spread worldwide—thanks to God TV and online broadcasting.

Within a few weeks, the bandwagon effect was in full swing. It's safe to say that no outbreak of Pentecostalism in history has gained so much international exposure so quickly as these meetings have.

I'm a cheerleader for the charismatic movement, so I rejoiced when I heard the news about revivalist Todd Bentley's extended visit to Ignited Church. It was thrilling to hear the reports of miracles and to watch the crowd grow until a stadium was required to hold everyone.

When I visited a service on April 15, I was blessed by Heather Clark's music and the audience's exuberant worship. And I laughed with everyone else as I watched Bentley shout his trademarked "Bam! Bam! Bam!" as he prayed for the sick and flailed his tattooed arms over the crowd. Hey, Jesus didn't pray for people according tothe Pharisees' rulebook, so I'm open to unconventional methods.

But I would be dishonest if I told you that I wholeheartedly embraced what I saw in Lakeland. Something disturbed me, but I kept my mouth shut for three weeks while I prayed, got counsel from respected ministry leaders and searched my heart to make sure I was not harboring a religious spirit. The last thing we need today is more mean-spirited heresy hunters blasting other Christians.

I am not a heresy hunter, and I support what is happening in Lakeland because I know God uses imperfect people (like me and you) to reach others for Jesus. At the same time, I believe my questions are honest and my concerns are real.

My motive is not to criticize Bentley or the pastor who is sponsoring these meetings, Stephen Strader. In September 2002 Charisma featured a seven-page article about Bentley's amazing conversion from drug addiction. I believe Bentley is a sincere brother who wants people to encounter God's presence and power. No doubt this 32-year-old evangelist needs our prayers now more than ever, especially since he has become the focus of international media attention.

But as the noise from Lakeland grows louder and its influence spreads, I'm issuing some words of warning that apply to all of us, not just the folks in Lakeland. I hope everyone understands that these cautions are offered in love:

1. Beware of strange fire. The name of Jesus is being lifted up in the Lakeland revival, and three people came to the altar for salvation the night I attended. Larger numbers have come to the front of the auditorium to find Christ every night since then.

Yet I fear another message is also being preached subtly in Lakeland—a message that cult-watchers would describe as a spiritual counterfeit. Bentley is one of several charismatic ministers who have emphasized angels in the last several years. He has taught about angels who bring financial breakthroughs or revelations, and he sometimes refers to an angel named Emma who supposedly played a role in initiating a prophetic movement in Kansas City in the 1980s. Bentley describes Emma as a woman in a flowing white dress who floats a few feet off the floor.

All of us who believe the Bible know that angels are real, and that they work on our behalf to protect us and minister to us. But the apostle Paul, who had encounters with angels himself, issued stern warnings to the Corinthians, the Galatians and the Colossians about angels who preach another gospel or that demand attention. In Colossae, believers were so enamored with angels they had seen in visions that they became "inflated without cause" by spiritual pride (Col. 2:18, NASB). Paul was adamant that preoccupation with angels can lead to serious deception.

We need to tread carefully here! We have no business teaching God's people to commune with angels or to seek revelations from them. And if any revival movement—no matter how exciting or passionate—mixes the gospel of Jesus with this strange fire, the results could be devastating. We need to remember that Mormonism was born out of one man's encounter with a dark angel who claimed to speak for God.

2. Beware of bizarre manifestations. When the Holy Spirit's power comes on people they may feel weak or even fall. The Spirit's power can also cause people to tremble, shake, laugh or cry. Such manifestations are biblical and we should leave room for them. But where do we draw the line between legitimate experience and fanatical excess?

The apostle Paul had to deal with outrageous charismatic manifestations in the Corinthian church. People were acting like raving lunatics—and turning the church in to a free-for-all of unbridled ecstatic behavior. Paul called for discipline and order, and he reminded early Christians that "the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets" (1 Cor. 14:32). In other words, Paul was saying that no one under the influence of the Holy Spirit should act out of control.

In many recent charismatic revivals, ministers have allowed people to behave like epileptics on stage—and they have attributed their attention-getting antics to the Holy Spirit. We may think it's all in fun (you know, we're just "acting crazy" for God) but we should be more concerned that such behavior feeds carnality and grieves the Spirit.

When exotic manifestations are encouraged, people can actually get a religious high from jerking, vibrating, screaming or acting intoxicated. (I have even been around people who writhed as if in pain, or made sexual noises—thinking this was a legitimate spiritual experience.) But emotional euphoria doesn't guarantee a heart change. The person who is bucking like an untamed bronco in a church service would benefit more from sitting still and reading the Bible for an hour. When we put bizarre behavior on the platform we imply that it is normative. Thus more strange fire is allowed to spread.

 3. Beware of hype and exaggeration. Our hearts are crying out today for a genuine move of God. We want the real deal. We've read about the Great Awakenings of the past and we long to see our nation overcome by a wave of repentance. The church is in a backslidden state, and our nation has rebelled against God. We are desperate!

In our longing for a holy visitation, however, we must be careful not to call the first faint breeze of the Spirit a full-fledged revival. If we do that, we are setting people up for disappointment when they realize it may not be what we blew it up to be.

Some of the language used during the Lakeland Revival has created an almost sideshow atmosphere. People are invited to "Come and get some." Miracles are supposedly "popping like popcorn." Organizers tout it as the greatest revival in history.

Such brash statements cheapen what the Holy Spirit is doing—and they do a disservice to our brothers and sisters who are experiencing New Testament-style revival in countries such as Iran, China and India. We have a long way to go before we experience their level of revival. Let's stay humble and broken before the Lord.

I am rejoicing over all the reported healings at the Lakeland meetings. Miracles are awesome. Crowds are great. But miracles and crowds alone don't guarantee a revival. Multitudes followed Jesus during His ministry on earth, but many of the people who saw the dead raised or ate food that was supernaturally multiplied later crucified the Son of God.

It was the few disciples who followed Jesus after Calvary who ushered in a true revival—one that was bathed in the fear of God, confirmed by signs and wonders, tempered by persecution and evidenced by thousands of conversions, new churches and the transformation of society. We should expect nothing less.

(Updated May 9, 2008)

Matt 5:48 "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."
I felt the Lord impressed in my heart this morning for this holy calling to be perfect. It is not an absolute perfection of complete sinlessness, but the context speaks of a heart perfection (cf Luke 6:36). A heart that loves like the Father God is a perfect heart. As we grow from grace to grace, we grow from perfection to perfection, just as Jesus grew in stature, wisdom, and spirit although He was always perfect.
Those who are perfect are those who love, for God is perfect and God is of love (1 John 4).
If I only love those who are my brothers and friends, those who are good to me, I am not that much different from the world. For even the tax collectors and sinners do that.

I perceive the word "Jesus" in my heart clearly today. I think it's not just a word for the cell emphasis today, but something much more profound relating to my life and ministry. After the cell, I saw a few videos on William Branham. Something more I need to pray, ponder, and seek out God's will.
It concerns the ministry God has given.

  • Lucifer Thought...

He was created with beauty beyond imagine
He looked at his Creator, with delight
After some time, he was puzzled
It could not be, how could God be like this
How could God who had bestowed his beauty be like this
Could God be weak?
After probably thousands and thousands of years
He still wondered, amazed, bewildered...
God still seemed not as tough as he thought
After eons upon eons, he knew without a shadow of a doubt that
God had weaknesses
And Lucifer thought he was still beautiful beyond imagine
So he rebelled, even successfully pulling one third of the earthly heaven realm angels with him
Because they, too, thought Lucifer was magnificent, and the Creator of them all, surprisingly had weaknesses
They could not be wrong because they have cautiously observed for eternities
O beautiful stars have fallen
They acted, pride was their banner, their king
God was hurt, He cried
Lucifer became Satan, he and his fallen angels were cast out of God's sphere of Heaven
After eons upon eons, he finally realized
When God seemed weak, He was not
He was meek
Satan finally learned the lesson that he kept failing while in Heaven
Meekness does not equal to weakness
Satan knew he is no longer beautiful beyond imagine
He realized outward beauty is only skin-deep
He realized who is the weakling
He knew but he still refused to learn
Now he has poisoned Adam's race with exactly the same attitude
Mankind thought...
Mankind thought they are clever
And they are deceived
Sadly, but let me say this
Many Christians thought
Even many ministers thought
But they are deceived
When Jesus walked on this earth, He taught:
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
Blessed are those who mourn,
Blessed are the meek,
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
Blessed are the merciful,
Blessed are the pure in heart,
Blessed are the peacemakers,
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
For they shall be comforted.
For they shall inherit the earth.
For they shall be filled.
For they shall obtain mercy.
For they shall see God.
For they shall be called sons of God.
For theirs is the kingdom of heave.
Now God is showing the world once again
Jesus was not put on the Cross because He was weak
It was because He is meek
It was because He loved you
And true love will always be meek
Open your eyes and see
What is really beautiful beyond imagine
Who is really beautiful beyond imagine
God is beautiful and highly lifted up because He is loving and meek
The problem is not one cannot see God
The problem is people have eyes that do not see
Blinded by their self-righteousness and pride
Nevertheless
It doesn't have to be that way anymore
It is not too late
Jesus came to preach the Good News
He came to give life, and life more abundantly
O the Word of God is true!
O the Love of Jesus Christ!
O the freedom and bliss of being able to truly see and live!
Wonderful Jesus, Wonderful Cross!
It is not too late.
O beautiful you can be restored!
